Welcome to the age of cheap crap

The world is going to shit because we can’t stop buying cheap crap. So says a upcoming film from Patagonia about how our rabid desire to consume is killing our planet, titled The Shitthropocene. Just from the brief preview, we see it paints a very dark tale about how our habits may just doom us in the end.
We realize the irony in supporting this theory while we also writing about meanswear and clothing. But we believe the difference here is in buying quality goods that will last vs. cheap crap that was produced to satisfy a new TikTok trend and then end up in a landfill 2 years later. The rise of “merch-ification” is leading to far too much waste for items people don’t need in the first place (Jake Paul sells a million dollars of merch each day, who buys this shit?).
So as you read this and future newsletters from Clever, be assured that we are fans of smart design for products that solve real problems, and in a responsible way.

In the spirit of unnecessary crap, we asked Google Gemini to draw us a picture of the most useless golf accessory. It nailed it.

Brand Highlight
Is there a hotter (and more Mormon) city than Salt Lake City these days? The Arizona Coyotes just announced their move to SLC, they have the best Housewives franchise going (I mean…not that we watch it), and their golf scene is exploding.
We recently came across Omos Golf based in Utah and while they don’t have a ton of products (read: no cheap crap), their future looks bright.
Our absolute favorite is their Glove Locker. Lots of brands are releasing carryalls to store your phone, wallet, keys in your golf bag. Most are just a satchell and zipper bag but Omos dug a little deeper and designed a better overall experience. It’s like a trapper-keeper for all your stuff AND separators to store multiple golf gloves. We’re a sucker for brands with thoughtful product design and not just putting our crap with a logo, but you know this. Check out Omos and don’t lose your shit.

The Boston Marathon-Winning Shoes from On
Hellen Obiri just won the Boston Marathon this month (her 2nd in as many years) in the most wild shoe from On. Many of you may know On from Roger Federer’s new Roger shoe, or from the 1 million dads that wear them for their back pain. But On is everywhere right now and the hype is real.
This is not just a brand looking to sell low quality shoes for high prices, they are innovating faster than the big dogs and for the winning Boston Marathon runner to cross the finish line in their new prototypes is massive. Big things in store for On. And do us a favor, count how many On’s you see next time you’re at the airport. The limit does not exist.

Stanley, Crocs, and HeyDudes.
The executive credited for Stanley’s insane rise to fame has moved back to old his company, Crocs, to serve as president of the HeyDudes brand. Do we love this guy or hate this guy? He’s clearly a genius for making all these brands relevant. But for anyone that’s seen HeyDudes in the wild, it’s scary to think of them becoming even more popular than they are today. What will this guy do next? Is no one safe???
Poshmark Find of the Week
With the NBA playoffs starting this month, there is no better way to upstage your friends and their vintage Starter jackets than with this one-of-a-kind sweatshirt featuring MJ, Kobe, and the Worm. Don’t even say you’re a 90’s Chicago Bulls fan if you DON’T own this masterpiece.
What we’re listening to right now
With the warmer days upon us, it’s time to bust out the summer jams. Darius is here with a remix of Sunlight by The Magician and it’s smooth as silk. It’s a more down-tempo mix of the original, so only listen if you’re driving slow Paul Wall-style.
