Luxury is Not Price

Golf Digest recently published an interesting interview on the future of golf fashion. In the article, they interview a few big dogs of current menswear brands - the CEO of Peter Millar, the Creative Director of B Draddy, founders of Holderness & Bourne, founder of Johnnie O, the CEO of Tag Heuer, and the son of Ralph Lauren . No bold predictions inside this article but lots to glean from opinions of the most influential names in the game. Our highlights without context:

The Polo guy said golf could lean toward “quiet luxury.” Nothing says quiet like a 6 inch horse logo.

“Luxury is not price” - Peter Millar CEO.

H&B - Decorum.

“Sometimes wrinkles are kind of cool.” Johnnie O

Geometrics, geometrics, geometrics.

“Style is more stable than fashion” - H&B

Brand Highlight

Running brand Hylo Athletics is new on the street (road?) and is hyper-focused on passionate runners. Their signature model Impact shoe, available in both a mens and womens, is clean, cool, and just unique enough to draw attention from runners and fashionistas alike.

Hylo values thoughtful design both in and around their products. Their shoes feature proprietary foam similar to an Adidas Ultraboost, they only use vegan materials, and most impressively they’ve created a Hyloop sustainability model where customers can return their end-of-life shoes to be mass recycled into future pairs for the brand. These will seemingly be released in their upcoming slide sandal in 2025. Whether you run-to-live or just like comfortable shoes, check out Hylo Athletics HERE.

Rolex CEO on Why Watches Should NOT Be An Investment

The watch market is not what it was between 2020 and 2022. The rise in the Swiss Franc, the rising price of golf, and the fact that even poolboys are wearing Submariners these days all contribute to a challenging year for Rolex. We think they’ll be just fine, but don’t dare call them investments.

Foot Locker Store Redesigns Are Coming

Foot Locker is leaning into the history and sub-culture of sneakers for their latest store redesigns as part of their Lace-Up corporate turnaround plan. Should be an interesting move with news that sneakerheads are getting older and trading in their Dunks for loafers. Oh and it’s very much still a struggle for brick and mortar. Learn more from their Chief Commercial Officer on the details of the plan below.

What we’re listening to right now

The eighth wonder of the world, the French duo Justice, released their 4th studio album last week and to say we are HYPED is an understatement. Our favorite track from the album - Neverender - taps Tame Impala for the vocals and produces the silkiest sounds your ears have heard since Jim Nance greeted us with “Hello Friends” at The Masters. It’s not the industrial and loud Justice of the past, it’s the Justice of the future. And we’re damn here for it. Check them out all summer on their 2024 world tour.
