Memorial Recap

Takeaways from 4 Days at the Memorial Tournament

Clever HQ is fortunate to be a stone’s throw from Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH and the site of the Memorial Tournament. Aside from being a PGA TOUR signature event, the Memorial has everyone a good midwestern golf tournament has to provide. After 4 days on the grounds and plenty of people watching, we’re excited to share our takeaways:

LA Streetwear brands were virtually nonexistent

Aside from Jason Day looking silky AF in his Malbon, there wasn’t a single person wearing Malbon in the crowds and we only say 1 single Metalwood camo hat. It’s funny to view Instagram and assume that golfers everywhere are foaming at the mouths over just 2 alt. brands. Our bet is that LA hypebeast culture just hasn’t or will take a foothold in Ohio. The number brand here will always be Ohio State anything.

The number 1 shoe of the Memorial = On

Men, Women, frat bro, and retired attorneys were all the same from the ankle down at the Memorial. On shoes were the most popular choice for marching up and down the hills of Muirfield Village. We know On was increasing their market share quickly but HOLY SHIT! Lots of knee cartilage was saved out there this weekend.

Slut shorts (guys) are getting all the hype but plenty of dudes still love rocking 9” inseams

Aside from the 5” inseam on the typical frat bro (likely Tier 1s or 2s, obvi), MANY dudes have not hopped on the short short train and are still completely happy wearing shorts that hit their knees. Even across all the age ranges in attendance, the average short length was much longer than expected.

Caddies continue to have better footwear than the golfers

Would you rather have millions of dollars and goofy shoes or have 10% of that and freedom to wear whatever you want? Probably the former but it’s amazing to watch the shoe choice of caddies as their job is to literally walk the golf course. We saw Jake Knapp’s caddy in Lakai skateboard shoes (barely tied) and Keegan Bradley’s caddy in some sleek Jordan MA2’s.

Young bros love their leg art

Tons of thigh tats and lower leg sleeves. Unfortunately no former lax jersey number lax tats. Definitely a few Ohio State O’s however.

Brand Highlight

This will now be the 3rd newsletter in a row mentioning Diplo running a marathon on acid but for those not looking to go quite that far, but still want some buzz, we’re excited to share with you a new brand of performance drinks and products infused with THC specifically for being active, Off Field.

Leave it to the University of Colorado to release a study on the positive effects of exercise and THC but there is more research fueling the product-market fit for Off Field. They offer drinks, gummies, and hydration powders with up to 5mg of THC and 10mg of CBD.

Maybe Diplo is on to something?

Find of the Week

Speaking of On and in the spirit of the French Open coming to a close this weekend, get your tennis on (pun much?) with this steal on some Roger Pro’s right now. Tennis fashion, in our opinion, is finally seeing a resurgence and the Roger Pro could be the slickest shoe release since the Nike Zoom Vapor (also Federer, duh).

What we’re listening to right now

All this talk of runner’s high has us in the mood for music that puts us in a tranquil place for the workday or out and about. Nothing better than Transient by Mr. G for that in our lives, enjoy.

Time to crush those spreadsheets!
